Famous vuvuzelas now on Youtube

As world cup is going on in South Africa with the famous vuvuzelas blowing all over the world, popular video-sharing website YouTube has now added a button that plays the high-decibel buzzing sound of a vuvuzela along with video clips featuring US President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron.

The button appears in the shape of a football on the bottom right hand corner. It allows fans of the "controversial" African plastic trumpet to overlay its sound on clips of political events as well as music videos, often to hilarious effect, the Telegraph reported.

Arabic becomes the first approved non-latin character top-level domain owner.

For the first time in the history of the Internet, non-Latin characters are being used for top-level domains,
the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) said in an online message.
As Chinese and Thai expect their non-latin top-level domain script be approved, Arabic has now become the first non-Latin script to be used as an Internet domain name.

The new top-level domains in arabic are designated for Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

Communications prices falling worldwide, UN reports

Prices of information and communication technology services are falling worldwide, and services continue to grow, propelled by mobile cellular use, but broadband internet remains outside the reach of many in poor countries, the United Nations telecoms agency said on February 23 2010.

The UN International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Measuring the Information Society 2010 report "confirms that despite the recent economic downturn, the use of ICT services has continued to grow worldwide," ITU’s Sami Al Basheer Al Morshid said in releasing the study, the UN News Service said.

A new domain address (.post) has been approved for postal services.

Web's authority for assigning domain names ICANN on friday (11th/12/2009) approved a new address .post (dot post) for all global postal services. This will help postal services have their own address on the internet.

The managing rights of the .post top level domain name were granted to the UN's Universal Postal Union, which will set up the rules on which organisations the address could be attributed to.

ICANN to introduce Internationalised Domain Names (IDNs).

ICANNThe body said it that it was finalising plans to introduce web addresses using non-Latin characters.
The proposalinitially approved in 2008 - would allow domain names written in Asian, Arabic or other scripts.

The body said if the final plans were approved on 30 October, it would accept the first applications by 16 November.

The first Internationalised Domain Names (IDNs) could be up and running by "mid 2010" said the president of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (Icann).
